BRIEF
What began as a modest leaflet eventually grew into a 416 page definitive guide to post-war architecture in southeast London. Authored by architect Ana Francisco Sutherland and published by Park Books, this project was a deep dive into the innovation that transformed Blackheath and Greenwich between 1950 and 2000.

WORK
Designing a book of this scale is a rigorous exercise in clarity and character. We needed to organise a vast amount of research, including 64 buildings and 38 architects, into a narrative that felt both academic and accessible. It was a privilege to explore the social and housing policies of the era while furthering our own studio interests in typography and print production.

PLAY
The result is a contemporary, meticulously constructed volume. We used a mix of colour and black and white illustrations to bring the “uncluttered modern aesthetic” of the region to life. The design reflects the architectural subject matter: it is clean, structured, and functional. We even included a practical map with suggested walking routes, turning the book into an active tool for exploration.

“The story of Modern Architecture in Blackheath and Greenwich needed to be told. We’ve tried, and hopefully succeeded, in producing a book that reflects the architectural subject matter whilst delivering a contemporary and rigorous design.”
