Jen Shares Insights at Fuse London

‘Taking Up Space as a Creative’

18.08.25

As the first women of colour at Studio Blackburn, Jen’s practice has always been about bridging two worlds. Born and raised in Hong Kong, now working in London, her work carries traces of both, respecting and preserving her Eastern heritage while weaving it together with Western design sensibilities.

At the first ever London talk hosted by Fuse Manchester, Jen shared her story of directing a project that brought her back home to Hong Kong. She spoke honestly about navigating the unknown as a young designer, the challenges of working across cultures, and what it means to take up space as an immigrant creative in the UK.

Her talk wasn’t just about design. It was about identity, presence, and how lived experience shapes the work we make.

“Jen’s work was full of purpose and honestly just really beautiful. She paid the utmost respect to her home country by not allowing the western gaze to swallow the culture & heritage that exists in Hong Kong, capturing it authentically and super candidly.”
